Not keeping up with the developed world is degrowth.
I hope Europeans remember their colonial history because with how they are managing their economies they are going to have it revisited on them in a generation or two.
People from the global south like you forget how far north Europe is. Much of Europe never needed it. Now maybe it does for a week or two per year. Things will change.
Fun fact: while there have been roughly 1,000 deaths this year in France attributed to extremely hot weather during the summer... there were more than 10,000 deaths (ten times as many) attributed to cold weather in the preceding winter.
Northern Europe's main problem, every year, is keeping people warm in the winter. Heat death in the summer is a novelty. Global warming will actually reduce excess mortality in Europe, because warming winters will save more people than hot summers kill.
> Global warming will actually reduce excess mortality in Europe, because warming winters will save more people than hot summers kill.
Is this informed by studies, or are you just assuming "global warming = higher average temperature = less cold"? Because that's not how the climate works. It's very well possible that global warming increases the number of cold-related deaths in Europe.
Ah, thanks. I feel like there's far too much uncertainty to state "Global warming will actually reduce excess mortality in Europe", but I'm not basing that on concrete data, so hopefully I'm wrong.
