I’ve been reading about bureaucracy, power, and civic engagement:

The Power Broker by Robert Caro.

Recoding America by Jennifer Pahlka.

The Time Tax by Annie Lowrey.

Did you come across the 99% invisible book club for The Power Broker? I tried keeping up but fell a bit behind by the end of the year and finished the following January. it's a great complement to the book. Caro is an incredible writer - I'm on the first LBJ book now. It was never a book I thought I could finish just from the intimidating size and seemingly dry nature but Caro's storytelling moves it along so well.

I do vaguely remember seeing the 99PI book club at some point, but I didn't follow it. I'll check it out, though. Thanks for the tip!

I'm really looking forward to working through the LBJ series. I think I'm going to get it on Kindle and Audible so I can work my way through it bit by bit whenever I have free time and attention.

The Power Broker is very good but his LBJ series is phenomenal. When I recommend it to people I say it's like The Odyssey of American History and Politics. It's the best non-fiction series I've ever read and I almost exclusively read NF.
