My rollback time is measured in kilometres.
I build self-service kiosks and the POS systems next to them. Real machines, bolted to a shop floor, kicked by customers, unplugged by the cleaner, on whatever internet the landlord is paying for. When a release goes wrong there, nobody types `git revert`. Somebody gets in a car.
So most of my work is the unglamorous half. Provisioning that takes a device from cardboard box to live fleet with nobody touching a keyboard. OTA updates that can lose power mid-flash and still boot. One codebase that satisfies several certifiers, because the alternative is a fork per market and death by cherry-pick.
The day job for the last few years: ~10 engineers across backend, frontend and QA, most of them hired by me, all of their PRs still read by me. I also built the team's Claude Code setup — CLAUDE.md hierarchies, MCP servers for Jira/GitHub and codebase search, fan-out review with parallel subagents — and got ten people to actually use it, which was the harder engineering problem.
Looking for: engineering manager, tech lead, or staff-level backend. Remote, EU hours. I'm at my best where software meets physical objects, auditors, or a team that ships but can't tell you when.
