Culture is a sewer.


But by torrenting you are participating and engaging with that culture...

I get it, the big brands etc aren't very palatable. And some things get lost with no way to purchase because the companies don't care. But for things that are readily available I find it just as easy to buy if for a few bucks on ebay / local library sale / etc.


As far as supporting creators (or rather rights holders) goes, whether you pirate, buy a used copy or use a library makes absolutely no difference.

Very true. It's more of a personal choice based on my own values for myself:

If I buy secondhand, I still provide value to someone (the used books store, etc). There is an "equivalent exchange".


You also funnel money back to the person who bought the media in the first place, and they might use the money to buy more media.

I'm not participating in the part of the relationship that normalizes destroying general-purpose computing. They want us dead.
