There's only 1 (one) all-open chip I know of: ath9k ar9271 802.11n 2.4 GHz from 2011.

Atheros (now Qualcomm) released its firmware source: https://github.com/qca/open-ath9k-htc-firmware

I have many, many these dongles :)
