How are idiot kids (look at the text, language - and I doubt there was much skill involved) plus the defacement of a site making news?

A lot of time language like this is used intentionally for added effect. And then every time something like this happens "idiot kids" are derided for not having any skill. Yet a company like Groupon with salaried technical engineers failed to defend themselves. If we're defending our networks against idiot kids then we're covered, but if we take away from this that sometimes there are some skilled individuals involved, maybe we will take security a little more seriously.
Also it probably helped that there has been a lot of talk recently about this area in the news, in this article making it to the front page.
This was actually an attack on the Israeli infrastructure. The registrar was hacked. All of the domains registered there (cnn.co.il, microsoft.co.il, skype.co.il, etc) were also returning the same response.
