What do y'all think about the latency/quality tradeoff with LLMs?

Human voices don't take 30 seconds to think, retrieve, research, and summarize a high quality answer. Humans are calibrated in their knowledge, they know what they understand and what they don't. They can converse in real time without bullshitting.

Frontier real time-ish LLM generated voice systems are still plagued by 2024 era LLM nonsense, like the inability to count Rs in strawberry. [1]

I'd personally love a voice interface that, constrained by the technology of today, takes the latency hit to deliver quality.

The stack you're describing (multi-cloud Terraform across AWS/GCP/Azure handling law enforcement evidence) is genuinely complex to secure from the ground up — especially with the compliance exposure that comes with CJIS-adjacent data.

One thing worth thinking about before the new hire starts: the first infra person at a bootstrapped company almost always walks into cloud credentials that are broader than needed and Terraform state that's never had a security pass. Getting a baseline done before onboarding gives them a clean starting point and avoids inheriting someone else's decisions as their first task.

Multi-cloud Kubernetes at scale (AWS + Azure simultaneously) is one of those setups where IAM boundaries and secrets management tend to drift faster than the team realizes — each cloud has its own identity model and they don't map cleanly to each other, so the blast radius from a misconfigured service account is usually larger than anyone expects.

Worth doing a security pass on the existing setup before new platform engineers inherit it as the baseline. Distributed teams expanding across regions amplify this fast.

Rinse provides dry cleaning and laundry delivery services to customers in twelve metropolitan areas in the US and Canada. We have sophisticated logistics optimization software, a polished consumer product, and firm business fundamentals. We're now over a decade old - this is a stable, yet consistently growing and innovating, company.

Our engineering team is distributed across the United States and internationally, and has been entirely remote for years now, but a desk can be provided in the above cities if you'd prefer.

We're open to both newly-graduated engineers or more senior engineers, provided they meet our bar. We do have a physical footprint in each of those cities, and there is real value in being able to actually see our product and service in person by being in our service area. We can provide a desk with real co-workers in any of those cities.

Most developers prefer to work from home, though! We're fully remote, and are free to mostly work from home or a co-working facility instead of one of our potentially-noisy offices.
