So many movies have been made since films were invented, that the number of "lesser-known" but good films in ALL genres is huge, especially for younger generations. I've got 30-year-old employees who enjoy movies but are more-or-less oblivious to all the great movies created before they were born. In my day, a hand full of local theaters might offer a new film each week, and a few old films would show up on TV. It was a lot easier to keep up with production. But now the vast number of movies that exist guarantees many films will just never get a chance to be widely seen and will be forever stuck as "lesser-known".
