Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.
Politics are politics no matter whether you happen to agree with them or not. If politics are off-topic then so are all those Guardian articles and flagging them is the correct approach.
Mind you, I have my disagreements with this policy since I know nearly everything has been made political. Be that as it may the policy should be applied without bias for this forum to not devolve into yet another Reddit clone.

"Complaining" about what exactly? The 680,000 Palestinians killed since Oct 7th? Or 380,000 Palestinian Infants ? Mind you only 1,900 Israelis have been killed since Oct 7th. I come to this Forum for the level of intellect that is hard to come across elsewhere. However it is becoming a problem when each post is flagged for whatever reasons.
Complaining about the moderation, because it will only lead to harsher moderation.
Political content of any kind is considered mainstream and off topic by many people here, and thus unlikely to lead to curious and intellectually stimulating conversation. Which is the only kind of conversation we're allowed to have. Good hackers aren't supposed to find this interesting.
If you want to keep discussing these things, it really is best to just keep your head down and accept that the thread will be flagged at some point, and when it's dead, move on.

I agree mostly, however the mods repeatedly allow high karma accounts to flame bait and continuously makes exceptions for the worst political threads. The guidelines are very vague and allow for any number of interpretations.
The rules exist through the zeitgeist of the community, not through any text about hacker, novelty, etc.
Without taking any sides here, the most liberal estimate of Palestinian casualties, coming from the Palestinian Health Authority, don't break 70,000 Palestinian deaths TOTAL. Where did you get these numbers from?
That is not an accurate estimate, that is the number of bodies that they have managed to count. If people are stuck under rubble or are otherwise "lost" without leaving an identifiable body then they don't go into the official count. And as you can imagine the ability of Palestinian authorities to count bodies is significantly diminished since Israel has destroyed so much infrastructure. We'll only learn of the true number when this genocide finally ends. And then we'll all be shocked and surprised and can join the German civilians after WO2 in saying "Wir haben es nicht gewusst".
