Elon Musk touts $150B in savings in FY2026 – after claiming DOGE could cut $1T (nypost.com)

The $1T was the self-driving car, coming soon in 2016^H^H17^H^H y'know, whenever.

(The $150B is the $40k truck; unlike the self-driving car, theoretically maybe could happen, but will not.)

I understand the reference, but would instead say it would be akin to claiming a car can go from 0 to Mach 1 in 0.9 seconds.

It sounds impressive, but you wouldn't actually want to be in a vehicle which does this, because it will injure you.

Even the $1 trillion was a massive scale back as he claimed "at least $2 Trillion" from cutting "waste":

> The boss of Tesla and the social media site X, Elon Musk, suggested last month at Donald Trump’s rally in New York City that it would be possible to cut “at least $2 trillion” from US government spending by eradicating “waste”.

Elon Musk is a known bullshitter. When the GAO affirms there has been $150B in savings then I'll believe it.

Even if the $150B figure is accurate (and there's currently no way to tell), I'd bet that it's direct "savings" that doesn't deduct the costs that DOGE has incurred. I think it's very likely those costs are much higher than $150B.
