I don't think it's useless. Anyone that has been involved in any online communities that value privacy/anonymity have likely experienced a friend disappearing.
I distinctly remember reading a friend's writings and sending them a number of emails and not receiving a response. Only to find out months later they killed themself.
Processing all of that is kinda strange. Looking back at the emails, the timestamps, etc. I wish I had known sooner.
