This article doesn't do justice to the book when calling it "plenty fluff". A bulleted list is abridging beyond the point of usefulness. Just read the original instead of what this person distilled for themselves.


Couldn't disagree more about what the author says about the style of the book. The book is conversational, but "tech bro"? Huh??? I've read Ousterhout's book cover to cover and don't feel like it was a waste of time. Summarizing it as a list of 10 commandments is silly.


I've re-read Ousterhout's book about four times. It has influenced the way I think about writing software more than any other book I've read.

I had the same reaction when reading this post.
