Ask HN: Circa 1998 AI Storyteller Article
1 point by wahern 5 months ago | hide | past | favorite
Around 1998 or 1999 I read a long-form article about an AI e-mail fiction bot. I may be misremembering aspects, but it detailed how you could e-mail this bot with prompts and it would respond with further details about the story, a futuristic interactive choose-your-own story service, which in retrospect was likely alluding to a Turing Test bot. The article deftly let you assume this was a new technology that was being reported on, but then admitted at the end that it didn't exist... yet. That that day has come. For over 25 years I've regularly thought back to that article, but I've never been able to find it. It may have been on Salon, Wired, or possibly Usenet. I can't remember. Does anybody remember this?
