AMD EPYC 9845 Makes for a Persuasive Upgrade with Performance and Efficiency (phoronix.com)

>the upgrade from the EPYC 9754 to EPYC 9845 delivered 1.36x the performance with the same to slightly lower power consumption for use in existing AMD Socket SP5 having a 400 Watt power limit. While still using DDR5-4800 memory. Prior Turin with DDR5-4800 vs. DDR5-6000 benchmarks, there can be very sizable gains with the faster memory -- all the more so too for the EPYC 9845 given the increased number of cores contending for the twelve memory channels. Simply upgrading the BIOS and swapping the CPU without having to resort to a memory upgrade and any increased power/cooling requirements while achieving 1.36x the performance is a very persuasive generational upgrade.

The 1.36x is both IPC and going from TSMC 5nm to 3nm. In terms of Pref per watt it is probably ~1.4x+.

I still think the overall roll out for AMD EPYC on server is slow. It really should be at least 40% to 50% in terms of Server revenue or shipment numbers. You could view either AMD are not executing well or Intel is defending its turf like crazy.

Hopefully we get more cloud vendor to move to 5th generation EPYC.
