It is — AFAIK, Google pays Apple enough money for the default search engine deal to cover Safari development along with all its components.


Does Apple do most Webkit development too, not just Safari? I thought it was originally spun off from KHTML. Did Apple take over most of the development at some point?

GNOME Web (formerly Epiphany) is also based on Webkit: https://apps.gnome.org/Epiphany/

Though I guess it's not extensible so you'll have to get some other way to block ads.
