Social media does 'more harm than good' (lbc.co.uk)

That's not actually what this study finds, or even what it was trying to study. What it does find is that a majority of users of social media _believe_ that social media does them more harm than good, which is subtly but distinctly different. It may very well be that social media does in fact do 'more harm than good', but this study hasn't tried to quantify that.

"Social media" is such a broad term though. It'd be interesting to see this broken down

- "Social media" with your real identity having an online presence (this seems to have the most harm, especially to girls)

- "Traditional internet": Anonymous / pseudonymous things like forums, gaming, comment sections etc.

- "Parasocial media" (comparing self to, or obsessively following, the output of professional influencers / advertisers / performers)

There's also the "cult" aspect of a lot of online communities that can alienate a person from real life. This can be bad for young people.
