Ask HN: Hetzner Ashburn slowed to 100K speeds?

We[1] have been very happy using Hetzner cloud servers in Ashburn and Helsinki over the past couple years, and suddenly in the last couple weeks, we noticed a big slowdown to all our servers in Ashburn. We set up some testing to check throughput and from most places in the world, the file download speed out of any Ashburn server of ours on multiple Networks has slown to ~100K (ie pre-internet modem speed).

Is anyone else experiencing this? It does sporadically return to fast, but in general its slow now. Strangely enough, there is no slow down for access to Ashburn from the Bay Area, but from LA, Europe, seems most anywhere outside of Bay Area, 100K.

The response we received from Hetzner support about this: Dear Client,

``` The host systems of our cloud servers are connected at 10Gbps. Cloud servers are shared systems. This means that you share the host resources, including the network, with other users. As a result, cloud server performance can vary during peak periods, although we try to keep our systems as stable as possible.
We only offer guaranteed bandwidths for Dedicated-Root-Servers. ```
As far as I know there are no dedicated servers offered in Ashburn.
