I saw a Tesla with an Audi badge on it the other week. I didn't realize that it was a trend, or why someone would do that. Do they really think they're fooling anyone?
Human beings are social animals, signalling is part of that. People who bought an electric car might identify strongly with social groups that hate Elon Musk, and will experience the usual human desire to signal that they are "one of the good ones".
