Can anyone explain how the GPS signal is acquired if the sats are only pointing at earth?

Is it because of sats on the edge that are broadcasting the radio wide 180 degrees and just a hole in the direct line-of-sight?

2 axis gimbaled antenna is used to point at Earth. Details start at page 6 on the last link in this comment. I don't believe precise positioning on the Moon is occurring, only detection of where Earth is and consumption of the positioning signal the experiment can receive.
