And everyone seemed to talk about Compiz like a thing of the distant past which they wished were still around.
But it's 2025, and I have been using it daily for nearly 20 years (including when it's ancestor, Beryl).
Obviously it has gone through a few iterations, but it's included in Debian repositories today. I use MATE because I still am fond of the old Gnome 2 interface.
I think Debian uses "Compiz Reloaded" <https://gitlab.com/compiz>
As of this writing, I see they made updates as recently as 4 weeks ago.
I'm using wobbly windows, desktop cubes, even Emerald window decorations. It all works, you just have to apt install it.
