I wish people would stop quoting the "vim is in maintenance mode" nugget in the sense of "vim won't be developed further".
The author of the phrase said they do not have time to work full time on vim, but they'll welcome changes and people to step up.

This blog post articulates a number of things I've meant to write down. One thing I'd extend regarding typing speed: I actually find that thinking is aided by how quickly I can dive through a codebase and read it. To the extent I can fluidly through my editor, it's helpful. I also find making small edits and/or starting to move things around can aid me in the thinking process. There's something to fluency with tools that actually seems to help me even when I'm not sure what the exact next git commit should be.
