When working on 1800-ChatGPT I had a few hopes.
* It would allow Voice AI usage in new places. Quickly call from your car or other 'phone only' situations.
* It would see usage in multi-party usage. Call to ask a questions/verify something quickly.
* Would be more accessible. Phone calls are easier to make for some.
Curious if people saw other things happening/possibilities.
I know that I sure did not. I was actually thinking about building something similar as an experiment for a local Amish community.
The Amish are generally against technology, but this falls into a category of somewhat acceptable usage (they generally use landline telephones connected to a neighbor's barn for purposes of arranging work and travel) .. but it's unclear how accepted something like this might be.
In my mind I was imagining they might be most interested in using it for medical advice, and likely they would come up with their own creative uses for it as well.
I got the idea when talking to an Amish guy and he mentioned that he was getting a ride from someone and the topic of when a particular farm store opened, so the driver pulled out his phone and asked it via voice what time the store opened, and the phone told him the answer. The Amish guy was amazed that the phone talked back to him.
I've been thinking I'm going to blow this guy's mind and build something to make this more advanced technology accessible to them.
Really cool to see that it already exists.
I'm going to let them know about this and see what comes out of it.
