Hey HN, I built Duory as a companion app for Duolingo users like myself. After years of using Apple Notes, I realized it wasn’t designed for language learners—so last July, I decided to build one.
Duory is a notes app with inline phrase support. You can translate, add romanization/kana, and even attach audio clips to phrases for playback.
Current features:
* In-app Translation – Add and translate phrases within notes
* Romanization – Convert non-Latin text (supports Japanese: Hiragana/Romaji)
* Audio & Playlists – Attach recordings, create playback loops, and control audio from the Lock Screen
* Repetition Mode – Customize playback order, loop phrases, and add pauses for practice
* Vocabulary Browser – View words extracted from your notes
* Journaling Mode – Special note type with target-language keyboard suggestions
* Quick Capture – Save phrases from Duolingo, images, or documents
* Widget Support – Recently added phrases at a glance
It's still early, but I’m actively working on bringing it to iPad and Mac this month (fingers crossed!).
(Heads-up: It’s freemium with a trial for premium features.)
I’d love your feedback—what features would you like to see next?
Thank you!
