Eh. I can rather trivially imagine a future where AGI development gets interrupted by a series of domestic terrorist attacks in response to some critical mass of economic disruption being hit. Folks get cranky when they're having difficulty feeding their kids, and given how comprehensively armed the US populace is that's bound to get spicy.
I'm not sure I agree there. You don't need to hit anything like AGI to brick the bulk of the economy. 60% of the US works service industry jobs that could be replaced with a kiosk and automation that requires zero problem-solving ability. I also don't think AGI is possible, but that's a separate discussion.
