FCC Proposes Nearly $4.5M Fine for Apparently Illegal Robocall Scheme (fcc.gov)

Until things like this carry mandatory jail time or we have corporate structure reform, they’re going to continue happening.

It’s easy enough to structure companies such that you can declare bankruptcy and spin up a new one. It’s also a lot harder to prove intent in court when only looking at historical factual data. The actions themselves should be enough for jail time.

How does the $4.5M fine compare to revenue generated by the scam?

Unless there is jail time, these fines are just a slap on the wrist, and are often factored into budgets as “costs of doing business”.

This is a big fine against a modern VOIP SaaS: https://telnyx.com/

It's frustrating that the triggering event was spam calls to FCC staff members and their family. If only spam calls to us plebs could trigger such fines.
