I don't understand the scare quotes or emphasis on the guns not having serial numbers. Most states don't have gun registration so guns with a serial number are as equally untracked (Maybe you get the point of sale, but private sales are also largely untracked).
The problem is how easy and prolific guns are to get the dubious traceability serial numbers offer is a red herring and feels like an unproductive avenue for combating gun violence.
