The guy who founded the company, Ferdinand Porsche, did work on an electric car for another company before that, called the Egger-Lohner C.2 Phaeton. But, while the Porsche marketing department seems to be hard at work to make it seem like he was wholly responsible for it, if you go to the Wikipedia article for that car you get this gem of a sentence:

Further down it seems like he designed the car's drivetrain. And also that Porsche (the company) has a history with this car: they acquired it from another museum and then started displaying it with the incorrect label of "the first Porsche".
