Ask HN: Did Google just enable Gemini for everyone without asking?

I noticed in my Google Workspace account Gemini. I read the blog post at https://workspace.google.com/blog/product-announcements/empowering-businesses-with-AI.

Did I get it right that Google has enabled Gemini and will start to charge it on March 17th unless you disable it?

I believe the pricing changes remain in effect even if you disable the Gemini features in your Workspace admin, as they are now bundled and not a separate add-on: https://support.google.com/a/answer/15400543

Oh, I do hope that there will be an option to reduce the price if setting is off. I've thought of the same thing. And this all reminds me of MS price hike (also with including the AI) -> https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42735193

taubek, yeah, it seems like Google is rolling it out by default for Workspace accounts. I’ve seen similar behavior with some of their other services where they enable features proactively, and you have to manually opt out if you don’t want it.

From the blog post, it looks like they’re positioning Gemini as a big AI upgrade, but the whole “auto-enabled” thing without explicit consent feels off, especially since it might lead to charges. I’d recommend double-checking your admin console and turning it off if you don’t plan on using it.

According to seetings it is turned off. Maybe it is still in the rollout phase.
