The links, the interesting stuff, the comedy of wtf lulz and sometimes the chance to write something meaningful, well I think meaningful but many let me know not so.
Where else, well last few years really pulled back from the web as it just got a lot harder for me to write than even the mid 00's during my recovery phase - but most places I liked to frequent on a daily basis are long gone [computing.net spent a bit of time contributing, later tehparadox - off topic area getting into trouble for engaging with squeaky toys aka political trollers.] Most other forums I really didn't spend a great deal of time there, since I soon found most were echo chambers and I'd move on. HNs seems to be a diverse mix of people.
I'm here because from reading the conversations I learn more about programming.
I'm also here because I hope to promote my blog as I post links to it occasionally. Let me do that again. Lol. https://rxjourney.com.ng
I'm here because I hope to land a job.
I'm here because I just love this website, man. I was building a notifications service as part of a microservice and I sometimes stop to question how complicated everything was getting. Hacker News is a relatively simple web application that does what it's supposed to do.
There are still people here capable and willing to give insightful comments and discussions on technical subjects. I don't care for the political or health stuff as that is usually, like many other places, too unscientific discourse.

Hahahaha, you are hitting way too close to home. The other place where people will find me are some 4chan boards, where I argue endlessly about topics that might not impact me.
