Ask HN: Is anyone building their own AR glasses?

I would love to connect with other hackers building their own Frankensteins.

I'm working on making Nreal glasses standalone. It's a sandwich of an RPI Zero 2W alternative, a custom companion PCB, a battery, and a camera. You attach it to the glasses and plug them into it. Since it has a camera you can design any user interface and vision-based applications directly on it.

I'm also requesting a Lumus Z-Lens devkit as it seems to be a game changer.

Yea!! I was looking at some options in Alibaba. Haven’t found anything good. Anyone root meta glasses yet?

Cool! What are you working on? What were you trying to find?

Industrial use case safety googles. Not very exciting.

What are you working on?

My end goal is to make glasses that can do a real-time AI translation, showing up as subtitles under people's faces. So that I can move countries without having to worry about not understanding anybody.
