HDMI 2.2 will require new "Ultra96" cables, whenever we have 8K TVs and content (arstechnica.com)

Well this is interesting as pretty much all TV manufacture and Broadcasting companies have backed off 8K. And focus on much more useful things like higher frame rate for sports content or HDR 10.

I dont doubt 4K is not perfect and there are improvement in resolutions above. I always thought 8K is overkill even for most enthusiast. But we could have had a compromise and do 6K or even 5K. Except no one is pushing for such thing.

It has taken the TV industry really long time to have more than 1 Full Bandwidth HDMI 2.1 port. I could only hope Mediatek get the HDMI 2.2 support out faster this time around.

For VR applications, you essentially need to split the resolution per eye. So if you want a 4K view, you’ll need at least an 8k signal.

or two 4k conduits

seems like one more coffin nail, just whos coffin im not sure.

forcing new specs and standard, is so often the foundation for a wall.

who wants to retool or redeploy something that no normal person needs, and what will it cost to convince otherwise
