Criticism, if kept in check, can be a valuable tool IMHO. Remember, to many eyes, all bugs are shallow. In a way, then, I think that criticism can provide a way of bug checking designs and modes of thought. Of course, criticism can turn nasty and destructive, but I don't think it has to. That's my 2ยข, anyway.
