I always flinch when I see the word "compliance" or "compliant". Those are synonyms for "checklist cargo cult engineering" to me. Sure, it's possible for someone smart, motivated and charismatic to use "compliance" to bludgeon an organization into the future, but that's a rare combination of traits for any human, much less a techie.
