I used to work for an MSP that primarily serviced architecture firms. Can anyone with real-world CAD experience comment on how this stacks up against AutoCAD and the like? I can't even remember the other one or two major platforms some of our clients used and two quick web searches didn't reveal their names, so maybe they were more fringe than I'd realized.

Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit, etc) were an incredible pain to support. Beyond doing its primary job as CAD software, I'm also interested if anyone can comment on how this compares when troubleshooting, upgrading, sharing files from disparate versions, etc?

FreeCAD lacks polish and intuitive interfaces and controls. Using it in a business setting would most likely be an awful decision.

If anyone has experience with a "real" CAD program, and they try to use FreeCAD, they will lose their mind and wonder why anyone uses it at all. The reason to use it is it's open source and free. If that's what matters to you, you grit your teeth through the awful interface, learn its quirks, and learn just enough of the tools to do what you need to do.

I remember similar comments about Blender a decade or so ago.
