I don’t have many thoughts about the perks, I always thought they were the dumbest and cheapest thing management could do to appear to care, so like, if they want to stop doing them, cool.
WRT AI making engineers obsolete. Ok. If some LLM lets an engineer be, like 2x as effective, the companies are now going to have to compete against other companies, half their size, that suddenly have as much engineering capacity as them. This will all be very funny if it actually happens.
Anyway, we should stop pampering C-levels and upper management with giant salaries. If the company is going to halve itself in size, their jobs just got much easier.
