Obstacle avoidance and automatic braking can easily be switched on or off by the driver.
Also, I’d be shocked if they turned off either of those emergency features (and why would you, especially an uber driver).
Those settings are also reset every trip, it’s not realistic to assume that this guy configured his car to act less safe.
