So what exactly does Palantir do? All I understand is that they provide counterterrorism and cybersecurity services to the US and UK governments, as well as data analytics to corporations. But then why don't they operate in other countries also if they can operate in UK?

they offer political manipulation as a service.

just before the 70s one could pay a think tank to mislead graduate students to write reports that greatly pushed one point of view. then that report would be used by the legislative to pass regulation because "the benefits are obvious". then the executive world award contacts to the think tank because "they are field experts without equal".

palantir is just the evolution of this. a sleazy thinly disguised think tank that uses AI and other magic algorithm instead of economics and social sciences to justify legislation and then get awarded contacts.
