Yeah but that's a lot of individual purchases I have to maintain and regularly rebalance. The fees alone would destroy it. I want "buy all S&P stocks minus Boeing" to be as easy and cheap as "buy Boeing".

FWIW InteractiveBrokers charges per share, not per transaction. You could theoretically automate rebalancing.

I know it's overall pretty daft, but I've also had the 'personal ETF' idea.
