I've used this on my pi400. For somebody who just wants to try out an Amiga It "just works", and comes with a bunch of bundled software and everything already configured.
You still have to purchase the Kickstart ROMs from AmigaForever from Cloanto (or acquire them some other way) to use it.
As I understand it Cloanto isn't a lawsuit-centric company, it was a long-time developer of software for the Amiga, then the creator (with Amiga's blessing) of AmigaForever. Hyperion Entertainment was the lawfare company.
Meanwhile, the community still does not have access to the historical source code repository, which should by all means have been open sourced ages ago by Cloanto, who definitely has the right (and moral obligation) to do so.
I can agree with the general sentiment, but how much forward can Amiga move at this point? Hacks and expansions are still being developed, the A500mini is out as well (albeit without the Amiga name or logo)… what else should we expext, really?
It is all about nostalgia really, as someone that was around when Amiga actually mattered, it was a great product for its day.
Nowadays, while modern systems still don't offer cool ideas like its datatypes extension model, everything else is quite outdated in how to approach similar programming problems.
