It’s odd the guy reported the Tucson police said it was out of their jurisdiction and then he just ran out of ideas, that’s what the FBI is for and they have better digital resources than local law enforcement. The open ended chat for children is just ripe for abuse, too, even kids games from 20 years ago like Disney’s Toon Town did it right.
Disboard is the big search engine for publicly available and promoted (by the servers themselves, on the public Internet! There is not even an attempt at hiding some of this).
Search for things like BDSM. You’ll get results for servers targeting minors (that have a BDSM theme, not even poor algorithms).
You’ll get results for servers that are open to minors and adults with sexual themes (similar themes, “open to 14-28 year olds”).
You’ll even get sites where minors “sell content”.
Is a fucking cesspool and somewhat surprising it’s flown under the radar so long.
Ruben Sim has been doing really good work addressing this stuff. So good that apparently Roblox, whose business model has pivoted into conducting child husbandry for groomers, felt the need to sue him. Since every kid I know cites Minecraft and/or Roblox as their favorite game, I think more people should be aware of this.
