They're apparently going hard this time, no known way to play anything anymore.

Playing on the website without an account still works.

^ Claims to have a fix due in a nightly build.

YouTube addon on KODI works without ads but one cannot sign in anymore so need to add and bookmark the channels one watches regularly manually. Learning to use KODI is a worthwhile pursuit these days for many IMO. Another possibility is to use the official YouTube app via a VPN with a country setting like Russia and one should see no pushed ads anymore for obvious reasons.

So your solution to see YT without ads is route it through Russia, where it will be monitored by Russian authorities?

And while on that VPN the rest of your traffic will also be routed through Russia? That's next level masochism :)

Today I got an update notification on Tubular app (based on NewPipe), both the streaming & downloads are now working.

LibreTube is also working last I checked (yesterday).

I would just stop watching youtube tbh. It's not worth the horrible ads.

Google continues the war against its own users

Of course, the customer is the advertisers, not the users.

No way around this either? I shouldn't have updated

It has nothing to do with updating

Some piped instances, with e.g. Libretube, still work though

Funny, my invidious instance still works..

Buy yt premium subscription

Happily if that allows me to use NewPipe.
