Russian space agency head: Moscow has proof America DID go to the moon (intellinews.com)

> A 2020 poll conducted by WCIOM revealed that less than a third of Russians believe that Americans reached the Moon. The survey indicated that 49% of the population doubts the authenticity of the six manned Moon landings between 1969 and 1972. The fluctuation in belief highlights a generational divide, with scepticism being highest among those aged 45 and over, and lowest among young people aged 18-24.

Wow, I would have expected the results to be the other way around. Skepticism should have been lower in the older group, because the Soviet Union was definitely our enemy. If they had detected anything wrong with the unencrypted television broadcasts _from the Moon_, then they would have trumpeted it to the entire world as proof of our insincerity. I guess they could have been saying that anyway, without bothering with proof.

>they could have been saying that anyway

Yet the USSR didn't. The official line was that the USSR chose using lunokhods (Moon robotic rovers) over sending people.

>without bothering with proof

You mean like Biden's lies about Russian bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan or Bush's about WMD in Iraq?

Fascinating. So where did half of the older Russian generation get the idea that the moon landings were faked? Internet hoaxes?

I don't know, sure internet plays its part, but our television since the fall of the Soviet Union has been busy spreading all kinds of pseudo-scientific and conspiracy theories. Reptiloids, Nibiru, psychics, the moon hoax too.

It's not like they are mad or something, just some commercial channels and tv show studios are pushing this kind of content that is surprisingly popular. If anything, what sets apart the older generation from the younger ones is their habit of trusting TV, Soviet censure didn't allow things like that on tv and in printing.

Personally I've met only one guy who believed that Americans haven't landed on the moon. He was young and had higher education.
