I read the bill this morning and it's unclear what I'm supposed to freak out about. The requiring ID to use online services is annoying, but it appears that they are establishing a committee to research the effects rather than implementing it. Is there something dire in there that I missed?

The "device or operating system level age verification system" is concerning to me, as once you have to attest to who you are to a remote system, you've created the ultimate tracker for online. Every activity will be able to be trivially correlated to a specific user.

I believe a potential future Republican controlled government would turn something like this against the LGBTQ community (despite certain LGBTQ groups okaying the changes).
