initially thought this was going to be a bunch of Freenet or blockchain type projects, but it's not at all. it's quite the assortment, some of it pretty micro and unsexy but important. eg: improving touchscreen configuration and calibration, or security tooling for vehicle OBD2 ports.
nice to see projects like this getting funded. we need more devs doing this kind of work but expecting them all to build a business out of their work or to be a fundraiser in addition to project maintainer (in addition to having a day job and a life) isn't realistic.
They are nominally all "free and open source". Is there any expectation to build a business? Just doing work on a library or basic hardware concept seems a good thing off hand.
The page mentions (1) "small and medium grants [...] to improve the quality and maturity of the projects" And (2) "Practical support includes security and accessibility audits, help with licensing compliance and mentoring".
Sounds pretty down to earth and practical terms to me (if the fine print reflects these broad lines.)
