Show HN: Journalling is great. But I failed every time I tried (nunodonato.com)

My journaling became a lot more reliable when I started writing on my laptop instead of in a journal. I was hesitant to do this because it didn’t have the same romantic feeling as writing in a book that people could read.

But when I started typing instead of writing by hand, I could get my thoughts out faster. I didn’t worry about planning out how I was going to say something because I could edit it. I could write pages instead of paragraphs (If I wanted to)

I know it’s not for everyone, but off handwriting is slowing you down, try typing. I really love Day One on the Mac. I’m sure there are plenty of similar apps across various platforms.

tell me you didnt read it without telling me you didn't read it :)

I did. And I was just sharing what worked for me. My point was that I started being successful when I stopped trying to shoehorn myself into what I thought journaling was supposed to be. What made you think I didn’t read it?

> but off handwriting is slowing you down

I'm literally using a new solution that avoids slowdown (either typing, or dictating)

Journaling just one time is a success, so how could you fail? There are no rules--just write what you are feeling. No technology is required.

Totally agree. Don't feel bad if you skip days when you don't feeling it. Doing Journaling now for 3 years and I love to go through old notes. Some are not relevant but some are pieces of gold.
