The term goes back to the 1950s -- and it has become entrenched, like the term "UFO" has become entrenched -- so it's a bit late to change now.

I don't think that "different intelligence" is any better, besides. Different how? We don't know how the human brain works, and most AI systems are black boxes, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that there are deep similarities we have yet to discover.

The greatest and most immediate "difference" is that one type of intelligence is natural/organic and the other is synthetic/inorganic. In other words, the latter is artificial.


I was just thinking about that - something like “hypercomplete” is a better name, since all LLMs are basically glorified autocomplete.


Microsoft complaining about naming things is rich. Can't wait for Copilot to become CopilotSharp Cerebral Suite followed by renaming it to Synapse Core.NET and then releasing Synapse Core for Home, which is an unrelated smart home device collection which they brick within a year. Not to be confused with Synapse Core for Businesses which is what they renamed PowerBI to
