Hating Apple Goes Mainstream (world.hey.com)

I've found myself missing classic OS X a lot more and more recently too. It was productive in a way that current macOS is not. Why? All the same elements are there -- screen-top menu bar, same UI controls, etc. What's the difference?

I was so uncertain it was just nostalgia that I bought an old lampshade iMac on eBay (because I love the design) and used it for a while. It was running 10.4 Tiger. And I can see the same ingredients but... wow... Tiger was beautiful. It was just so simple to use.

Why? What's actually different?

I haven't answered this myself yet.

But I feel a lot more ambivalent about Apple products than I used to. The article touches on this, but states it's because they have mature products with minor updates. I think, maybe, they have mature products which are worse than their earlier products.

One thing for me was when Snow Leopard -> Lion changed the grid virtual desktops to a single line with a slow animation between them. That absolutely killed the feature for me. Can no longer efficiently swipe between more than two. I just cmd+tab on a single virtual desktop now, and have ever since Lion was released.

Seeing how they are actively fighting the DMA and still impose 27% cuts for app purchases, yeah, no surprise at all

Went to apple. Told them i wanted their best computer. Two employees lied to me and sold me one. Turns out that was not their best laptop. The employees just sold me whatever. Tried returning it. Nightmare. Ending up just leaving it there. Two weeks later finally refunded. Gross lying liars. Awful experience.
