Astronomers finally detect a rocky planet with an atmosphere (reuters.com)

They make it sound like it's the first discovery if a rocky planet with an atmosphere. What about other exoplanets like TRAPPIST-1d?

I could be completely mistaken, but I believe (at least for TRAPPIST-1d) no atmosphere has been directly detected, it has just been posited and models suggest that it should have one. The wikipedia article (for TRAPPIST1-d) is full of "may consist of", "could consist of", "models indicate", etc. Whereas this seems (?) to be a direct observation of an atmosphere.

Aw.

We've trained generations of children on what to do if the floor is lava.

well that explains the atmosphere

the headline makes it sound like they’ve been bar hopping looking for the perfect spot

> Astronomers finally detect a rocky planet with an atmosphere

> Astronomers have searched for years for rocky planets beyond our solar system with an atmosphere - a trait considered essential for any possibility of harboring life. Well, they finally seem to have located one. But this hellish planet - apparently with a surface of molten rock - offers no hope for habitability.

Why does this sound so much like online dating?
