I use to trust it, have it as my go-to for 'alternative to'. At some point it became ridiculous. I would ask for an (e.g.) "antivirus software" and it would drop me a list with irrelevant security-related software. I think that their need to be helpful harmed the quality-vs-quantity ratios. I stopped using it and now I 'ask' Gemini for 'alternatives' to. I find it to give me more accurate results. Sometimes it suggests software/products that are retired or acquired (M&A). But still it will give me 90% good results instead of the 30% 'alternative to' website results.
