Any Google Analytics Alternatives?

Hey folks. Can you suggest any interesting GA4 alternatives?

Amplitude!(caveat being that I work there) We can replace Google Tag Manager’s functionality and also have product analytics and a bunch of other tools like experiment & session replay.

Unlike Google, we don't believe in walled gardens and so you can stream directly to Meta/Tiktok/Snap/etc and use whatever third party marketing tools you like.

Check out some of the differences and how to use our Tag Manager templates to switch easily over here:

Clicky.com is good and lightweight, with an old-school UI. You only get stats 28 days back if you don't pay for pro, but that is all you need in all of the cases.

BeamAnalytics is another option with a good free tier and unlimited days to look back.

But do you actually need analytics? If you use promo codes with your advertising you will get 100% accurate and correct data to show you which advertising actually works. Relying on what Google or Meta tells you is relying on the most brazen scammers on the planet.

I think a single Google Analytics alternative is pretty hard to pick considering that GA can be used to very much varying extents.

For simple and "detailed enough" insights, I enjoyed using Plausible (https://plausible.io/) in the past.

For more in depth analytics that give you a detailed view into your own product, PostHog.com seems to be by far the best and most popular option out there.

Enterprise level of insights: Matomo

Self-hosted: Plausible

SaaS for SMBs: Wide Angle Analytics (my tool)

Matomo is great, has so many toggles and features. It exists for many years, so might feel dated, but is very robust.

With Plausible, go for self-hosted. Their terms and conditions are pretty restrictive, so are limited to very few metrics. They do not allow Personal Data processing, so even if you have consent, you can't use it for anything more advanced.

Wide Angle Analytics supports Cookieless, strictly privacy first by default, but also allows you to process Personal Data if you collect consent. So you can use Wide Angle on the edge, on the landing without consent, and then the same analytics for your logged-in users, once they accepted T&C. That way, you get more accurate session analytics. Heck, if you like, you can even enable cookies.

Building openpanel.dev which is a bit more advanced then plausible.

In reality it’s an opensource alternative to Mixpanel but so liked plausible so much so added all their features as well.

It’s opensource and you can self-host it.

Another open source alternative similar to Plausible is https://umami.is/

We use Posthog.com which is good alternative to GA.

Cloudflare analytics or Github Pages Analytics. Nowadays any analytics that is not directly based on the HTTP server is flawed.

Another vote for Cloudflare Analytics. Not as powerful as GA, but I think that's why I like it. Cloudflare Analytics is much easier to use on a day to day basis!

Without a doubt Plausible Analytics. It offers simplified and privacy-focused data tracking, much simpler and more direct.

For self hosting, maybe.

For SaaS you will find that there is plenty to choose from.

The following are the best alternatives to Google Analytics as of 2024: Semrush, Clicky, Matomo, Analytics Narratives, ImpactHero, Piwik Pro, Heap, Woopra, Fathom Analytics, Mixpanel, Adobe Analytics, Plausible, GoSquared, Gauges, and Simple Analytics.
